Description
A 1956 Triumph TR-3 has arrived at our shop.
After World War II, small sports cars suddenly became popular among U.S. soldiers stationed in Europe, and in response to this demand, European manufacturers competed to develop small-displacement sports cars.
The British automaker Triumph played a key role in this trend, initially developing a prototype known as the TR1. The model that debuted as a more user-friendly version for the civilian market was the TR2.
However, the TR2 suffered from overheating issues, and the company was compelled to develop a model with further-enhanced brakes and suspension to withstand use in the United States. That led to the introduction of the model we are featuring today: the TR3.
It was powered by a Standard-manufactured water-cooled, four-cylinder OHV engine producing 1991? and 95 horsepower. With a top speed of 175 kilometers, it offered respectable performance. The suspension features an independent double-wishbone setup at the front and a rear solid axle, resulting in a model with even better road holding than its predecessor, the TR2.Additionally, starting with this model, the front brakes are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes manufactured by Garling, offering top-tier performance for a British compact sports car of that era.
Its distinctive body—featuring deeply recessed doors, independently flared front and rear fenders, and uniquely protruding headlights—boasted a highly individualistic style that gained immense popularity, earning the support of sports car enthusiasts around the world, particularly in the United States. With its simple construction, easy serviceability, reliable engine, and sturdy chassis, this car can be adequately maintained even by amateur enthusiasts, and
it was frequently used in motorsports. This particular vehicle was first registered in Japan in 2022, but as you can see, the body, engine, and suspension have all been completely restored after being removed from the frame. The interior and other components have also been thoroughly restored, leaving it in absolutely impeccable condition. It’s ready to drive or participate in events right away, just as it is. I believe there are very few TR3s that have been restored to this level of perfection.
This is definitely a car you’ll want to see in person.
